Cervical Neck Traction
Neck pain is a common occurrence for many people in their daily lives. Often known as Cervical Spondylosis later in life, this general term refers to the relative "wear and tear" of the joints in your neck. This can create pain, stiffness, and muscles spasms in the neck, shoulder and back. As you grow older the bones and cartilage that make up your spine and neck gradually deteriorate, which can cause stiffness of the ligaments connecting the neck bones and muscles. Over time such pain may also be the result of vertebral and disk degeneration.
Generally, Cervical Spondylosis starts to show symptoms in persons 40 years or older. For most people neck pain starts as an acute pain, and will remain constant or grow stronger as you age. However, in more extreme cases, neck pain can become chronic causing cervical radiculopathy and cervical myelopathy, which can lead to permanent disability.
Neck pain can result from working at a desk for prolonged periods of time, physical strain or activity, or simple daily routines. Generally, cervical neck pain can be caused by several things. These can include, but are not limited to a trapped nerve between the vertebrae, muscular problems, injury due to physical activity, or inappropriate working or sleeping posture. Some of the more common symptoms include headaches, reduced range of motion, muscle weakness, sensory changes and numbness, and lack of coordination.
Among many other treatments such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief, muscle relaxants, exercises, and even surgery in extreme cases, one of the most helpful is using neck traction devices.
